Jolene is a well-known artisan who learned the traditional methods of Kewa (Santo Domingo) jewelry-making from her grandfather over 20 years ago and further refined her technique at the Poeh Center. She selects only the finest raw materials and then cuts, carves, and shapes each separate element to create her bold pieces. She also makes all of her own beads and heishi from stone and shells. She is an accomplished artist particularly known for her inlaid mosaic pieces.

Santo Domingo Artist Jolene Bird’s one-of-a-kind specialty guitar is the height of craftsmanship of inlaid of turquoise mother pearl onyx and sponge coral. This beautiful instrument will be displayed at the DR. Pickens turquoise museum in 2020, in Ponca City Oklahoma.
